GOOD NEWS ON WA FUNDINGI am pleased to report that, following discussions with the Disability Services Commission, we have been granted a variation to our contract, enabling us to remain viable and maintain our service to clients at existing levels.
While we did not get the full 15% increase in funding given to the “not for profits”, we at least were given sufficient additional funds to provide Personnel with a competitive level of remuneration with other agencies in the sector.
It is disappointing, however, that the government has never given a clear explanation as to why we were excluded from the original 15% increase, and equally disappointing that our client families largely remained silent on the inequity of the government’s decision.
TASMANIAN NEWSThings are going well in Hobart with several new clients and new therapists starting with us. Peta Kelty has been busy spreading the (ABA) word, talking to the Minister for Disabilities, and the shadow Minister for Health. She has also been busy promoting ISADD in the south of the state and this is starting to show results. Peta has also been working on programs in various primary schools and showing good results with training teacher aides to increase the benefit of the government’s Working with Children with Autism funding.
ISADD Social Autism Network Group (SANG) FACEBOOK GO!There is now a Facebook group called “S.A.N.G.” for any parents of ISADD children. Anyone is welcome. It is a place for questions, suggestions and support.

One effect of this that you might notice is that this edition of Rhubarb is smaller than usual, as my frustration tolerance for left-handed typing is low!

Usually, there will be someone else in the office until 5.00 pm, but that person may not be able to assist you with your enquiry. Thus, wherever possible, please try to contact the office during the hours that Linda is on duty.
OFFICE PHONEStill on the subject of contacting the office, the telephone system – to which we are unfortunately committed – has the annoying feature of answering with the message “all our operators are busy…….”, and this cannot be switched off at the end of the day, when in fact, everyone has gone home! We can only apologise for any inconvenience, and ask again that, if possible, restrict calling ISADD to the times listed above.
