A monster day out for 5 lucky ISADD children! (See photo section)

Wednesday October 6th families. With very short notice ISADD were invited to rustle up five Monster Truck fans to attend a special viewing of these awesome machines. This crew places a huge emphasis on Autism awareness and all 26 Big Foot Monster Trucks carry the ‘Autism Speaks’ logo.

The five families and two ISADD staff gathered at Perth Motorplex in Kwinana and were ushered into the centre of the arena. There was some waiting around as camera crews got themselves organised but the kids kept themselves entertained by playing with each other, trying on helmets, and interacting with the show’s crew.

The Crusty Demons (Freestyle Motocross riders Matt Schubring and Callum Shaw) donned their helmets and off they went. I looked around to see all the kids’ jaws drop simultaneously as the two stunt riders took off up the ramp and launched themselves into the air.

This display was soon followed by a show by two Monster Trucks; the Crusty Demon, and Big Foot. The massive engines roared and the kid’s hands went to their ears! The beastly trucks took off and stormed over a line of cars, and they hurtled past us, kicking up the dirt. As if this wasn’t exciting enough, then came the climax of the day – a ride in Big Foot. The kids came running up and waited patiently for a ride with the friendly driver Dave George. Although a tight squeeze, they all thoroughly enjoyed the experience, All the kids were helped up by crew member Rusty Bell. Rusty also took the time to answer the boy’s questions (of which there were many). They even allowed us big kids sit inside. We also got to witness a spectacular stunt by an 11 yr old Queenslander called Ryen Andrews-Young who jumped his motorbike through fire! Needless to say he became an idol to many of the boys (although I’m not sure if the parent’s are too happy about that!). Check out
